Resumen

Este texto presenta los resultados de una investigación sobre la migración en el Pacífico latinoamericano centrada en las trayectorias de migrantes nacionales y transnacionales, así como en el uso que hacen de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC). Mediante un enfoque cualitativo este estudio enfrenta a las siguientes preguntas de investigación: (1) “¿Cuáles son las características del fenómeno migratorio en el Pacífico latinoamericano, particularmente en el Pacífico colombiano?” y (2) “¿Cuál es el papel que juegan las TIC en el proceso migratorio del Pacífico colombiano?”. Para responderlas se recogieron 105 entrevistas estructuradas a migrantes del Pacífico colombiano durante más de tres años. Los resultados describen la migración nacional y transnacional del Pacífico colombiano y muestran diferencias en los usos de las TIC por parte de los migrantes: por un lado, juega un papel en las trayectorias de los entrevistados; por otro lado, representa una herramienta de supervivencia e integración. Además, las TIC también les ayudan a mantenerse 'conectados' con sus familias, así como con sus lugares de origen (en un estado de 'liminalidad').

Luis Fernando Baron Porras, Universidad Icesi, Cali

Luis Fernando tiene un Ph.D. en Ciencias de la Información de la Universidad de Washington. Tiene estudios en Comunicación y Antropología. Ha sido líder en el estudio de los movimientos sociales y las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC), especificamente en el campo de los derechos humanos y la construcción de paz en Colombia. Su investigación abarca áreas tan diversas como las memorias, la opinión pública, la configuración del territorio, las migraciones y los procesos alternativos de organización social. Su último libro es sobre memorias de emprendedores sobre conflicto y paz en el Pacífico colombiano (2018).

I have a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences («UGent» - University of Ghent) and in Theory and Social Research  («Sapienza» - University of Rome). My joint-PhD thesis was about the connection between the online and the offline worlds in our everyday life.

I am interested in the social effects of new media, which I preferably study by a qualitative approach. I did research about new media as well as non-profit and genre studies.

Before the Ph.D. course, I graduated in Communication Sciences (Bachelor Degree) and Sociology (BA Honours), and I studied business communication (P.R. online).
