The audiovisual medium has served as a transmitter of values throughout its story. From militant cinema to video activism, audiovisual productions have been agents that generate awareness in the viewer and, with the evolution of the media ecosystem and the irruption of virtual reality (VR), offer new possibilities. Among them, dual ubiquity is key in generating empathy in the audience, as it can transport them to other realities. Therefore, what impact can virtual reality have on contemporary audiovisual activism? A bibliographical review of the references and the latest research on the subject was carried out to delve deeper into this question. Once this first phase was completed, we designed a model for the analysis of virtual reality films, which updates the immersive triangle (Cortés-Selva, 2015) based on the variables established by Archer and Finger (2018) and Domínguez-Martín (2015), with which two productions of Emblematic Group, one of the leading producers in the field of nonfiction VR, were analyzed. Finally, the results expose some common characteristics identified as necessary to produce an emotional impact on the audience, indispensable for their effectiveness as tools for social transformation.
