This research analyzes how preteens (tweens) in the cities of Zaragoza (Spain) and Pau (France) use tablets as the first device they make their own in the digital world and how it influences their socialization with their peers. We analyzed 22 young people from both cities through a qualitative methodology (in-depth interviews) to reach said goal. The results show that despite the cultural differences between both countries and cities, the preteens of Zaragoza and Pau express a very similar way of relating to and using tablets, the level of penetration of this technology being very similar in all the cases examined. However, there are significant differences when interpreting the leisure spaces where they meet their friends.
