Introduction: Yiddish, the language spoken by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, was minoritized in Argentina as a result of the convergence of the glottopoliticies of the national state and the glottopolitical actions of the collective's educational and cultural institutions, which privileged Hebrew and Spanish over Yiddish. The minoritization of Yiddish therefore responded to national macropolitics and the local reworkings of political movements originating in the immigrants' places of provenance, in concordance with the language policies of the State of Israel since its creation in 1948. The linguistic ideologies derived from these movements also gave rise to perspectives that predicted both the disappearance of the language and a continuity that, in principle and at first glance, seemed improbable. Methodology: Review of records of ethnographic fieldwork carried out since the 1990s, interviews with descendants of immigrants, social network surveys, and analysis of a recent journalistic text. Results: Despite minoritization, and in the very context in which it occurred, this language was maintained in different spaces, particularly through verbal art forms performed in different communicative contexts that shaped a Judeo-Argentine folklore. Conclusions: The processes of mediatization and traditionalization/retraditionalization of folkloric expressions became spaces of resistance to the minoritization of Yiddish and for the construction of multifaceted Judeo-Argentine identities.
