Female-authored literature deals with the representation of women within their respective societies, inviting us to reflect on the situation of women according to their social, cultural, economic, and political categories; it provides the opportunity to glimpse their problems, their challenges, and their longing and offers a kaleidoscopic view of the female situation and condition -in this case- a plausible image of Chilean society at the end of the 20th century. This article proposes a study from a gender perspective based on the novel Antigua vida mía by Marcela Serrano since gender defines everything expected and valued in women and men as sexual categories, differential, and belonging to the field of cultural constructs.
